1 Samuel 14:1-45

For Father’s Day, we explored 1 Samuel 14:1–45, a passage that highlights the vastly different paths taken by two men—Jonathan and Saul. Jonathan emerges as a leader marked by faith, courage, and self-sacrifice, trusting God and serving others. Saul, in contrast, is portrayed as an insecure leader driven by reputation, control, and personal ambition. While Jonathan led through faith and love, Saul increasingly valued image over character, substituting his own will for God’s and leading through fear rather than devotion. As we reflected on these two examples, fathers were challenged to follow Jonathan’s path—living a life of faithful commitment to God while lovingly caring for and serving their families and those around them.
